Origin and History

Integral Yoga is a spiritual tradition that was founded by Sri Swami Satchidananda, who was born in India in 1914. He studied a variety of spiritual traditions, including Hinduism, Buddhism, and Taoism, and developed a synthesis of these teachings that he called Integral Yoga.

In 1966, Sri Swami Satchidananda was invited to the United States to participate in the "Human Be-In" event in San Francisco, which was attended by many of the leading figures of the counterculture movement of the time. This event helped to introduce Integral Yoga to a wider audience, and Sri Swami Satchidananda went on to establish yoga centers and ashrams throughout the United States and Europe.

Sri Swami Satchidananda passed away in 2002, but his teachings and legacy continue to be carried on by his students and the organizations that he founded, including the Integral Yoga Institute and the Satchidananda Ashram-Yogaville.
