Within San Francisco one can find one of the 30 Integral Yoga Institute centre's, which was founded in 1969. It is a non-profit organization dedicated to serving the community through living and sharing the classical teachings of yoga. Some of the offerings at this location are: classes, workshops, yoga therapy, and teacher training. Anyone, with any level of yoga experience can visit the center.
In 1969 the centre was founded and through the 1970's David Vijay Hassin was the Founding Director of the Integral Yoga Institute of San Francisco and the first Yogaville West community. He was one of a core group of students of Sri Swami Satchidananda when Sri Gurudev came to New York City and established the first Integral Yoga Institute. Since 2011 Swami Ramananda has been the Executive Director in San Francisco and a greatly respected senior teacher in the Integral Yoga tradition. The center is currently raising funds to be able to continue serving the community. The money will be used to maintain the urban sanctuary inside and out. Funds will also be used to increase the efficiency of resource use (energy, water, and materials) in the building and garden. They plan to replace the aging roof, add insulation to reduce heating costs, add solar panels to generate electricity, incorporate recycled materials to retrofit windows and doors, update bathrooms to reduce water, and consider gray water harvesting and composting for garden beds.
Integral Yoga is a spiritual organization founded by Sri Swami Satchidananda.
