Shinnyo-En is a spiritual organization that is based on the teachings of Mahayana Buddhism and the Lotus Sutra. Shinnyo-En was founded in Japan in the 1930s by Shinjo Ito, who was a lay teacher in the Tendai school of Buddhism. Shinjo Ito studied Buddhism and practiced meditation with a number of teachers in the Tendai tradition, and he also received teachings from other schools of Buddhism, including the Zen and Shingon schools.

After establishing Shinnyo-En, Shinjo Ito began teaching and spreading the teachings of the organization throughout Japan. He emphasized the importance of cultivating compassion and wisdom and of bringing about positive transformation in the world. Shinjo Ito also established a number of temples and centers for the organization, and he trained a number of lay teachers to help spread the teachings of Shinnyo-En.

After Shinjo Ito's death in 1989, Shinnyo-En was led by his daughter, Tomoji Ito, who became the organization's second head teacher. Tomoji Ito has continued to spread the teachings of Shinnyo-En around the world, and she has established a number of centers and affiliated groups in various countries.

Shinnyo-En has a number of teachers who have received training and instruction from the organization's head teacher, Tomoji Ito. These teachers are responsible for leading Shinnyo-En's programs and events and for guiding students in their spiritual development. The teachers within Shinnyo-En are committed to preserving and sharing the teachings of the organization and to helping individuals understand and experience the nature of the self and cultivate inner peace and well-being.
